Judges at Work in Schools- Holland Middle School

Last month, I had the privilege to speak with a group of about 100 students at Holland Middle School.  We discussed the judicial branch of government, as well as, the role of judges in the courtroom.  I also had the opportunity to emphasize the importance of staying in school and obtaining a college degree.  I  was able to relay the idea of the relationship between education and achieving goals in our society.  I am most proud of the students' commitment to education, desire to achieve, and appreciation for service.  I especially enjoyed the question and answer session!!   Thank you to the great students and educators of Holland Middle School for the opportunity to speak.

Judges at Work in Schools -- Law Elementary

Today I had the honor and privilege of attending Law Elementary's Career Day.   I spoke to 9 classes about what it takes to become a judge, and what it is that we do at the Courthouse.  The students were a joy to speak to, and they were extremely knowledgeable about a number of topics.  We read Marshall the Courthouse Mouse and discussed the Constitution and the branches of government.  The goal for me was to educate children on the role of a judge, and to get them excited about going to college and graduate school.   I am most pleased to let all the students know that there are others in the community that want to see them succeed in accomplishing all of their dreams in life!

Strake Jesuit Young Democrats

Last Friday I was honored to have the opportunity to return to my old high school and speak with the Strake Jesuit Young Democrats Club. It was a great meeting and attended by some 20 students. I am very impressed with all of these students and the thoughtful questions that were asked, but most of all with their commitment to service for others. Thank you to the Strake Young Dems!!

Judges At Work In Schools

What a great day!!  Today, I visited both Houston campuses of the Texas Barber College.   It was the inaugural event for the my new Judges at Work In Schools project.  The purpose of the organization to enlist judges, attorneys, bailiffs and other professionals to speak at local schools on topics ranging from civics and law to career opportunities.

I am honored to have been able to speak to a number of students today.  I am most proud to have been able to spread the message that there are others in the community that share their desire for success and are willing to help them in achieving their goals.

Midnight Madness

Friends, with my first post I am honored to report that I recently participated in a all-night, "Midnight Madness", charity fast-pitch baseball game to raise money for little Ariel Leal, a 9 year-old girl suffering from brain and spinal cancer.  The event was a huge success for Ariel, and a great time for all of those involved.  I was very pleased to meet so many people that share a passion for helping others in our community.  After 14 hours and 28 innings, the score was 39-29, and the winner was Ariel.  I am blessed to have been able to participate. Check out the story below from the Katy Times.
